Almost all healthcare organizations are pursuing digital transformation and innovation agendas in some shape or form, he said. "AI has matured and holds promise in preventive care, personalized medicine, operational efficiencies, remote patient monitoring, telehealth and drug discovery," Dadlani said in a video interview with Information Security Media ahead of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society 2024 conference in Orlando, Florida where he is a speaker .

But the associated risks must also be carefully addressed, he said. "Ethical considerations regarding patient consent, transparency, bias in algorithms, and accountability for algorithmic decision-making are paramount," he said.

Also, as the cyberthreat landscape becomes more complex - including the use of AI by cybercriminals for their attack, "it's even more crucial for CISOs to take a very comprehensive and multilayered security approach."

In the video interview, Dadlani also discussed:

  • AI-fueled cyberthreats facing the healthcare sector;
  • How AI-enabled tools can help healthcare sector entities improve their security;
  • Why potential AI regulations and legislation will lag technological advancements.

Dadlani joined Atlantic Health System in September 2020 and oversees IT systemwide. Prior to joining Atlantic Health System, he served as CIO for the New York State Department of Health. Prior to that, Dadlani served as the global head of enterprise at Sony.
